How much more could you love your new house if you paid a bargain price for it?
If asked, most people would name spring or summer as the best time to shop for a house. After all, those are typically the busiest seasons for house hunting, regardless of what part of the country you are looking at.
Generally, it would make perfect sense that things like the school year, weather, summer vacations, and an overall of sense of starting anew would be reasons to begin a new home search. However, are these really the only sensible reasons? Taking a good look at new numbers from ATTOM Data Solutions might make you question conventional wisdom on the subject. With 16 solid years behind the report and careful analyzation of data on 50 million home sales, it was discovered that February is the best month to buy a house at a discount.
Don’t you just love that? You want to purchase a new home and right now, in the month of February, you might be able to do just that for less than you can a month or so from now.
In fact, their analysis shows homes sold during the month of February were listed for 6.1% less on average per square foot than during the rest of the year. That can add up to significant savings both on the price paid and the monthly mortgage amount.
Hmmm, that means that compared to April home sales, the data reveals that even though more than a million additional homes sold, they sold at a median price higher than February sales.
Perhaps there’s a whole lot more to love about February than just Valentine’s Day! With sales data like that, if you are ready to buy a home and want to negotiate your best deal, this month is your month to fall in love with the home of your dreams! You can plan to wake up every day in the house you love, and at a bargain price.
