On Monday, April 22, 2013, RE/MAX Alliance was honored to provide a check donated in the name of Jessica Ridgeway to the Jessica Ridgeway Memorial Park. RE/MAX Alliance officers, agents, staff and affiliates raised $25,000 for the support and construction of the park located in Westminster, CO dedicated to the memory of Jessica Ridgeway. The donation was presented to the City of Westminster by Chad Ochsner, RE/MAX Alliance president.
The proceeding took place at the RE/MAX Alliance office in Westminster and was attended by Nancy McNally, City of Westminster Mayor; City Council members Bob Briggs, Herb Atchison, and Mary Lindsey; Legacy Foundation Board of Directors Bill Walenczak and Ed Getsch, along with Co-Executive Directors Laura Magnetti and Karen Layfield; Don Tripp, Director of Parks, Recreation and Libraries for the City of Westminster; and Joe Reid, Public Information Officer. A number of RE/MAX Alliance agents were also in attendance.
“As an organization we are dedicated to positively enhancing people’s lives, not only did we help over 10,000 families buy and sell homes in 2012, but our caring agents continue to find ways to give back to our communities,” said Ochsner.
Two of the RE/MAX Alliance flagship offices are located in Arvada and Westminster, communities that were greatly impacted by this tragedy.
“Raising funds for this spectacular park has been an honor and something many of our agents have passionately contributed to as a part of their own personal healing,” said Ochsner. “Being so involved in our communities is a privilege and something dear to our hearts. It's who we are as a company and a true testament to the caring individuals that help so many families year after year.”
RE/MAX Alliance agents throughout the company felt the need to step up and give back. Many agents donated their own money directly to the Memorial Park and others joined together to put on their baking hats and have bake sales in the individual offices. “It was absolutely amazing seeing what our agents were capable of putting together,” Ochsner said. “I remember seeing a plate of brownies go for $200! It was heart warming to see our agents pour their time, energy, and finances into this cause.”
Jessica Ridgeway Memorial Park, formerly Chelsea Park, is currently under renovation and is scheduled to be reopened to the public in late fall of 2013. Amenities at the park will include a swing-set made to look like a purple ribbon, raised garden beds adorned with knock-knock jokes engraved on large stones, and a zip line track ride. These are all things inspired by Jessica, her passions and exuberance for life.
Donations for the Memorial Park are still being accepted at www.westminsterlegacyfoundation.org.
