On Saturday, October 5, 2013, over 600 people from the city of Westminster, neighboring cities, community members, volunteers, Jessica’s classmates and Jessica’s family were all in attendance for the Jessica Ridgeway Park dedication.
Located in Westminster, CO, the park was completely designed to honor the memory and life of a beautiful little girl that was taken too soon. Draped in the colors purple and green (Jessica’s favorite colors), the park is equipped with swings, a teeter-totter, slides, and a zip-line that runs through the center of the park. There is also an area that has a handful of Jessica’s favorite jokes etched into the concrete. “Knock Knock. Who’s there? Heart. Heart who? I love you!”
At Saturday’s ceremony Westminster Police Chief Lee Birk, Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally, and Jessica’s grandmother, Christine, addressed the crowd. There was also a presentation of a butterfly plaque that was donated to the Ridgeway family by the Butterfly Pavilion. Following the ceremony, 10 purple balloons to honor Jessica’s life were let go into the bright blue sky.
“It was so heart-warming to see so many children playing in the park. Laughter filled the air while the purpose of the day was very tearful,” said Heidi Greer, Director of Business Development at RE/MAX Alliance. “I will always remember the 10 purple balloons that seemed to dance over the park when they were released, taking time to frolic around the park before rising into the sky toward heaven.”
“My kids were excited to go the park & celebrate the life of Jessica. It made me realize how important every minute I spend with my children is and to not take it for granted,” said Amber Panck, RE/MAX Alliance agent. “We had so much fun at the park and my kids can’t wait to go back!”
"Marilyn and I are touched by the community's outpouring of love and support for Jessica," said Ed Getsch, RE/MAX Alliance agent. "Our healing as a Westminster resident has begun with the dedication of this "one of kind, park." Every part of the day was special."
RE/MAX Alliance agents and staff members especially from the Arvada and Westminster offices were dearly touched by this tragic event and have been dedicated to making the Jessica Ridgeway park and the overall dedication a great success. RE/MAX Alliance officers, agents, staff and affiliates raised $25,000 for the support and construction of the park.
"I am so proud of RE/MAX Alliance's involvement and contributions to make this beautiful memorial park a reality," said Chad Ochsner, Broker/Co-owner of RE/MAX Alliance. "The healing that will come to our community from this tribute to Jessica will last for generations."
